Breed Characteristics

Country of Origin: The lost Valley of Tibet
K.C. Group: Utility Breed
Height: 14 - 16 inches
Weight:
18 - 30 lbs
Life Span: 12 -16 Years

Colour:
Any colour or combination of colours.
Coat: long, fine top coat that can be straight or wavy. Soft, woolly undercoat. Non Moulting (see Grooming).

Temperament: Friendly, Playful,  Gentle. Good with children. Not boisterous or snappy.
The Tibetan Terrier is a highly intelligent and sensitive dog. He is devoted and loyal to his family, but may be cautious and shy of strangers.
Ideal family pet.

Guard-dog: Very good. Not 'yappy'. Protective.

Care and Exercise: Regular grooming is required. Use a metal comb to keep undercoat free of tangles. Followed by brushing through the topcoat. Moulting is twice a year, but loose hair needs to be brushed out. Bathe with a mild shampoo + conditioner when necessary.
Clean ears, trim around eyes, and feet regularly.
Daily exercise is needed.

Training: Easy to train. These dogs like to please and love training. They learn quickly but can have a mind of their own :-)

Health Issues: Hip dysplasia, eye diseases.

Tibetan Terriers are easily adaptable to most lifestyles. They are just as happy in a mansion as an apartment. They don't need a lot of exercise, but can cope with a long hike if you so desire.
Their coat can be kept long, or trimmed to a shorter 'puppy cut'.
